How to use the NEW iPod Nano in Ubuntu
As I hate freedom I brought an Apple Ipod nano 8gb for Emmas birthday but was worried that it may not work too well with Ubuntu.
Luckily it worked fine. Well that was how many different website said, I tried a few different methods using gtkpod, amarok but the tracks were not showing in the ipod nano. But lucky I followed this instructions and bang it worked fine.
1) Plug the ipod nano in and then close rhythmbox as this is the default setting for ipods
2) Downloaded and installed these, ftp://64.22.103.45/packages/ubuntu/gutsy/libgpod/ and download the following two files :-
libgpod2_0.5.3+actually0.6.0-0.1_i386.deb
libgpod-dev_0.5.3+actually0.6.0-0.1_i386.deb
make sure you have all the repositories enabled in your Sources options area except for source code
3) Open terminal and type in df :-
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 48062440 3112656 42508308 7% / varrun 257920 88 257832 1% /var/run varlock 257920 0 257920 0% /var/lock udev 257920 84 257836 1% /dev devshm 257920 0 257920 0% /dev/shm lrm 257920 34696 223224 14% /lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/volatile /dev/sdc1 3798592 370320 3428272 10% /media/IPOD
4) Type in the terminal:-
sudo /usr/bin/ipod-read-sysinfo-extended /dev/sdc1 /media/IPOD
Thats it, open rhythmbox and drop and drag.
Now this is the music side sorted, but still need to look into all the others for pictures, covers & videos. To be updated
